National Bowling Finals

The Singles Finals
Nairn Bowling Club

The Singles Competition saw representation from all Areas bar Ayrshire and all 8 competitors registered with time to spare.

In the Final reckoning, the Host Area, represented by Mr Martin Lumsden of the Fortrose & Rosemarkie Branch, won the contest to lift the Forrest Cup, beating the Group winner of the other Section, Mr Robert Martin of the Prestonpans Branch (Edinburgh & the Lothians Area) in a convincing manner.

The National Sports Convenor would like to record his gratitude to Mrs Evelyn Mair, the Vice President of the Nairn St Ninian’s Bowling Club, our Hosts for the day for the presentation of the Forrest Cup and also for the provision of the markers and Umpire.  Thanks are also due to the Club Personnel of the nearby Nairn Branch Club for the hospitality & lunch afforded.

The Doubles Finals
Inverness Planefield Bowling Club

The Finalists had a 1 in 5 chance of winning the prize on offer at the start of competition and all the pairs reported with time to spare in Inverness.

The best pairs of hands on the day turned out to be those from Fife as Messrs Munro & David from the Markinch Branch got the better of Messrs Howie & Scott, representing the Aberdeen Banff & Kincardine Area to win the Colin Murray Memorial Trophy.

Our National Sports Representative commented that everything was good about the day from the Weather through to the venue.

Our National Sports Representative would like to express thanks to Mr John Lunn for the presentation of the Colin Murray Memorial Trophy and to the Planefield Bowling Club for the use of facilities and the catering offered.

The Triples Finals
Inverness Planefield Bowling Club

The Host Area entered a trio into this competition, which brought the field to 7 Areas represented, all of whom reported in with time to spare in Inverness.

This unfortunately brought a bout of dissatisfaction from one of the participants as their trio was drawn as part of the Pool of 3 Areas whereas the other Pool featured 4 Areas and subsequently meant fewer games played.

Our National Sports Representative reported this as the lowest point of an otherwise great day of competition.

In the Final between the 2 Pool winners, the trio from the Dumfries & Galloway Area bowled their way past the trio from Fife to lift the Wullie Nisbet Trophy.

Our National Sports Representative would like to record his thanks to the Hosts of the competition for the well-manicured greens and for the catering offered throughout the day and for the warm welcome afforded to the competitors.
